About V.E.R.

Individuals, couples, and families face numerous security issues beginning in their community with issues like school campus safety, as well as State preparedness (or lack thereof), and National actions and agencies which impact them to varying degrees. Vigilant Eagle reports on these three areas without political bias while supplying insights that overcome the shortcomings of contemporary media (TV, radio, & news print) while encouraging readers to be aware of impacts and take some action when they feel they must.

What are these media shortfalls? Too often current media provides nearly immediate notification of event occurrence quickly followed by biased political spin, he-said she-said emotionalism, and / or miniscule factual supporting data. Vigilant Eagle reports go beyond superficial speed and loud shouting by adding technical and analytical insights to reported events.

The initial author / analyst is Ed Mitchell. Periodically, other analysts will be invited to add original assessments.

Mitchell is a West Point graduate, RAND Corporation Fellow, and former Airborne Infantry Ranger, who retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army after a 25.5 year career. This military career spanned parachute missions in Alaska, mechanized infantry operations along the Korean Demilitarized Zone, Air Cavalry scout patrols, managing Star Wars Battle Management Command Control and Communications (BMC3), along with being the Space-Ground Combat Analyst within the U.S. Space Command just prior to the first war in Iraq (1990-1991).

For the next 12.5 years he worked as an aerospace engineer in Lockheed Martin then began consulting to companies selling technology to the National Missile Defense Program, the Department of Homeland Security, and NASA.

Additionally, since 1981 he has assessed soft targets within the U.S. that could easily be attacked by terrorists using available assets to deliver havoc on Americans.

National award winning fiction author Ed Mitchell is also a founding member of the International Thriller Writers Organization. His contemporary thrillers, GOLD LUST, GOLD RAID, and GOLD FIRE have won multiple book awards. Ed’s contemporary thrillers leverage his military and security experience by depicting an Iraq war hero and his family in settings from California to Costa Rica, Mongolia and Nigeria, as well as spy satellite technology, nerve gas poisoning and syndromes that threaten new born children.
