On 22 May 1999, Gold Rush 2000 (later re-titled Gold Lust) became the first fiction book to be accepted into the National Steinbeck Center Resource Library.

	Author, Ed Mitchell, reads a representative passage from his novel. While writing his debut novel, Ed Mitchell strove to create passages that have similar emotional impact as John Steinbeck achieved in his novel, The Grapes of Wrath. A living legacy to John Steinbeck exists in the writers striving to meet the literary standard Steinbeck established. Ed Mitchell is one of those writers.
	17 April 2004, Ed receives Northern California Publishers and Authors Association 10th annual fiction award for Best Action Book (Gold Raid).
